Ladies Open Day

This week Merlin Golf Club held their Ladies Open Competition. 57 ladies entered in teams of 3 with the 2 best stableford scores counting on each hole. The day started off a little chilly but soon turned warm and sunny. A strong easterly wind prevailed however,
which posed quite a challenge to many. Afterwards Jane Haytread, on behalf of Merlin Ladies, welcomed everyone and thanked them for entering. Jane then presented prizes. The winning team after count back with 75 points was Joyce Cain, Sallyann Stacey and Chris Smith from Newquay Golf Club. Coming second, and also from Newquay, were Meg Platton, Trish Poyner and Mary May, with 75 points. In third place was the Merlin team of Eileen Avery, Eileen Phipps and Sue Sykes with 74 points. In fourth place after count back with 73 points were Debbie Cain, Janey Barker and Liz Ward from Newquay. The prize for the best score for the front 9 went to Liz Hannaford, Dawn Dennis and Sue Wijesingha from Merlin with 38 points. The Enodoc team of Kath Biddle, Suzie Willmott and Barbara Willmott won the prize for best back 9 after count back with 37 points. Prizes were also presented to Debbie Cain and Trish Poyner who managed birdie 2s on the 5th hole and to Joyce Cain, for her birdie 2 on the 1st. Nearest the pin on the 5th hole was awarded to Debbie Cain and longest drive on the 17th went to Kath Biddle.
